Simple

Film photography can feel like a cheat code. As I tweak the camera settings according to practice, I am glad to work on technical camera skills. At the same time, I can't help but wonder if the shot is going to look good to me only because it is on color film. If the same shot were black and white, would I like the result as much?

I find this doubt occurs often for me when shooting on color film, so I decided to challenge myself to shoot only in black and white for a period of time. I realized that black and white film gives me a moment to slow down and takes the moment of capture a step further in than color can. It gives me the chance to consider if the light, shadow, and composition alone will capture something powerful, without the crutch of color.

Shooting black and white is helping me re-learn photography. I find I am starting to consider what I am shooting rather than only what the photo will look like developed.

This is an ongoing project. I will post updates as I progress.
