twentyseventeen
I’ve had my fair share of retrospective regret. When I think back to my teens and early 20s, I’ve gotten into the practice of being incredibly harsh with myself for mistakes I made. I’m sure many of us do so too. While regret is very real and mistakes have serious consequences, I have learned recently that characterizing entire seasons of life as “bad” because of things we wouldn’t do again is not a fully accurate generalization. We’ve all done amazing things too. We’ve blessed others, had amazing experiences, and learned valuable lessons. My wife and I were looking through old travel photos and came across shots I took while living in Asia for 4 months in 2017. It was soothing and healing to see how my photography reflected the way I saw the world back then. Going there and taking photos, developing my eye and exploring the experience of creating contribute to a season I can be grateful for, even though I was a childish 20 year old at the time. The photographs below are a collection of some favorite shots from that time and they provide me an opportunity to look back and be glad.
